    Kindred Hospital Fort Worth has an in-patient three bed hemodialysis unit. Hemodialysis is performed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We will help transition the patient to an outpatient dialysis unit upon discharge. We understand your illness and can appreciate what you are going through in this time of illness.

    When kidney failure occurs, dialysis is essential to filter impurities from your blood and maintain the chemical balance one’s body needs to stay alive. Our interdisciplinary team of dialysis specialists includes physicians, nurses, technicians and dietitians who will help provide for all your needs during the course of your dialysis with dignity. Most physicians of nephrology in the Fort Worth area have privileges to practice at Kindred Hospital Fort Worth.

    Ventilator Weaning

    Kindred Hospitals were established in 1985 to specifically manage the most difficult and seriously ill ventilated patients. Kindred Hospitals remain today the premier provider of long-term ventilator care in the nation. The success rates that are seen in our Ventilator Weaning Program show our dedication and commitment to achieve quality outcomes.

    Kindred Hospital Fort Worth consistently meets or exceeds the company benchmarks for pulmonary weaning. Our patients receive an individualized plan of care, optimizing their success rate to wean off the ventilator. We utilize progressive intervention and a multidisciplinary team approach. Our patients receive the experience and years of clinical expertise or our staff that sets us apart as a provider of this kind of specialized care. The most important team members are our patients and their families.

    Advanced Nutrition

    When illness or surgery adversely affects a patient’s normal digestive system or ability to meet their nutritional requirements, we administer medication and nutrition through a PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) or a PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) during the patient’s recovery.

    Diagnostic Imaging

    Skilled and certified technicians operate our imaging equipment, and we make every effort to perform the testing in a prompt and convenient manner.

    Direct Admission

    Occupational Medicine

    Occupational medicine is devoted to prevention and management of occupational and environmental injury, illness and disability.

    Palliative Care

    Palliative care is designed for patients with active, advanced disease and a short life expectancy. The focus of care is to prevent or relieve symptoms and to do everything possible to make the patient comfortable and improve quality of life.

    Pulmonary Rehab

    The aim of our pulmonary rehab team is to determine your capacity for respiratory recovery and then help you reach your fullest level of function. Our rehab regimen includes testing, education, breathing retraining and nutritional counseling.


    Rehabilitation services are provided by RehabCare, a division of Kindred Healthcare. The Rehabilitation Program at Kindred Hospital Fort Worth is recognized for its success in providing rehabilitation services to treat a wide range of medically complex conditions. Our goal is to optimize the transition from the acute care hospital to the next level of care.

    In seeking to restore and maximize the functional skills that will allow our patients to return to a more independent lifestyle, the program utilizes a carefully selected team of professionals specializing in various areas of rehabilitation care.  The team, working together, will guide the patient through an individualized treatment plan.

    Your medical care is the chief responsibility of your physician. As a member of the medical staff, your physician makes the necessary arrangements for laboratory services, X-rays, medications, special diets and any other treatment service. We are proud of the excellent medical and allied health staff at Kindred Hospital Fort Worth, who deliver specialized medical care to patients with illnesses caused by lung, kidney, heart and/or gastrointestinal diseases, as well as problems associated with blood and immune system disorders and infectious disease.


    Nursing care is implemented through a modified team approach and is patient/family focused. Medical/surgical nursing and intensive care nursing are provided. The team concept consists of integrated care via nursing, respiratory, rehabilitation services, and ancillary services to provide a holistic approach. We strive to provide quality care to our patients.


    The Intensive Care Unit provides specialized care for patients whose condition is considered unstable, who require complex pharmacological and treatment interventions, and continuous observation and/or monitoring.

    Cardiopulmonary and Respiratory Care

    The purpose of our Cardiopulmonary and Respiratory Care Department is to provide treatment to patients who may benefit from diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including ventilator weaning and pulmonary rehabilitation. All services are provided in accordance with a physician’s order. The department is also overseen by a physician director.

    The Cardiopulmonary and Respiratory Care Department provides staff coverage in-house 24 hours per day, seven days a week. All respiratory therapy services are provided by licensed, certified technicians, and registered therapists (RCPs, CRTTs and RRTs). Therapists attend and participate in the interdisciplinary patient care planning conference for all patients.


    Diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures as well as ultrasound and nuclear imaging are provided by qualified ARRTs/ARTs on site or through cooperative agreements with nearby facilities featuring state of the art technology and equipment.


    Our CAP-accredited laboratory provides the staff and necessary equipment for the diagnostic testing of blood, body fluids and tissues. Services are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

    Pro-Path Laboratories provides anatomical pathology services for the examination, diagnosis and description of all human tissue and cytology specimens submitted through the laboratory. Physician-ordered autopsies are also performed in accordance with policy and procedure through the Pro-Path Pathology Group. Pro-Path Laboratories are operated under the direction of a physician trained in anatomical and clinical pathology.


    Registered Pharmacists and certified technicians provide individualized pharmaceutical care and services based on the physician’s plan of care and the patient’s unique needs. In addition to traditional pharmacy services, specialized programs provide for:

    • Advanced Intravenous Therapy (potent cardiac medications, antibiotics, etc.)
    • Nutritional Support (intravenous and enteral)
    • Monitoring drug regime effectiveness and appropriateness
    • Pain management
    • Patient and family medication education and counseling.

    Food Services and Nutrition Support

    Our Nutritional Services Department prepares nutritious, appealing meals and provides appropriate nutrition support to our patients. Clinical dietitians also perform periodic nutritional assessments and monitor patients’ nutritional plans.

    Rehabilitation Services

    The department of Rehabilitation Services includes a staff of physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech/language pathologists. The scope of care for the patient includes evaluation and assessment of patient needs, delivery of therapeutic treatment, ongoing assessment and development of treatment plans, patient and family education and counseling and discharge planning.

    Case Management /Social Services/Discharge Planning

    The Case Management team consists of licensed social workers, and nurses who provide crisis intervention, situational counseling, discharge planning, and referral to appropriate community agencies. This team works closely with the interdisciplinary care team to develop a holistic plan of care for each patient. The plan is developed by the team, in coordination with the patient’s family, to achieve the optimal discharge environment, which may be home, assisted living, or a skilled nursing facility.

    Emergency Services

    Emergency Services provides for the assessment of patients presenting for emergency care, and as appropriate, provision of a Medical Screening Exam to determine the need for further care and treatment.

    Spiritual Care Services

    The hospital provides chaplain services at the request of our patients and families to provide for their spiritual needs. A patient/family minister is also welcomed to visit at any time.

    Safety Program

    The safety program is hospital-wide and covers both patient and personnel. The program is designed to effectively accomplish surveillance, prevention and the control of safety hazards to reduce risk of injury and life threatening conditions to patients, visitors and staff. The safety program also provides training and prepares the hospital for emergencies and disasters that may arise internally or in the community.

    Quality/Risk Management

    The safety of our patients, families, employees and visitors combined with the highest quality of care are our priorities. Through our Quality Improvement program, we are always looking for better ways to improve the services we provide. Monitoring and evaluation of data allows us to identify opportunities to improve care and provide for a safe environment.

    Infection Prevention Program

    The infection prevention program is a plan of action to prevent the spread of disease. The program is overseen by a qualified, and experienced Infection Prevention Specialist who is focused on reducing the risk of transmission of infections in our hospital among caregivers, patients, and visitors.

    Staff Education

    The Education Department provides education and training for all hospital staff with the goal of ensuring staff competency and safe practices, as well as providing general hospital orientation, annual safety training, and compliance education.
